Los Angeles – What to do in Venice Beach?
If you are in Los Angeles, there is one place you can’t miss: Venice Beach. Even though every tourist does it, you ought to go. A day, or a visit in Venice Beach is never the same. So what are you waiting for? Here some hints on what to do in Venice Beach.
Entertainment
You should visit Venice Beach just for atmosphere… well not only, but this reason is good enough already. It is full of Hippies, and a lot performers, musicians and small events take place in this laid back and artistic atmosphere of the boardwalk. All day street performers take over the side walk, from mimes to drummers. You won’t get bored! You can listen to some live music – I especially recommend checking out the Guitar Player on Roller Skates, Harry Perry! He has become an icon of Venice Beach and you can find him on many post cards. Open your eyes, their might be a break-dance show or some skateboard demo to check out. So really if you are wondering what to do in Venice Beach, it is to let the crowd entertain you!
Art
Venice Beach – the Mecca for artists of every genre, so when you are in Venice, go check out some Art. Many artists come from all over come to Venice everyday, become street performers, painters and singers, just because the atmosphere in Venice is so colorful and inspiring. Actors, painters, musicians… all can be found in Venice and therefore Art is all over Venice Beach. Every building represents a scene, graffitis cover all walls. Enter the little shops and find out of the ordinary souvenirs. You can also find great tattoo artists. So when you feel in need for a little inspiration, do what all the artists do and come to Venice Beach!
Come Hungry!
After enjoying the atmosphere and walking around for a while you’re starting to get a little hungry? Let’s take a break. Another great thing to do in Venice Beach is eat. What’s amazing about Venice Beach is the diversity of cuisine choices you have: Brazilian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Organic…. everything and anything you want! You can eat well for cheap (Restaurants in Venice for under $ 12), and sit and relax or just take it to go and enjoy a nice little pick nick on the beach!
The Real Venice
There is more to Venice Beach than just its famous boardwalk. Although as you can see it is a place you should not miss, I would greatly recommend going off the beaten path and see a Venice Beach that is not as crowded and touristy. That is definitely what you should do after a nice lunch to get some quiet relaxing time. There are hundreds of small canals, almost like in the real Venice. The canals of Venice give it a special charm. You can cross from on side to the other, back and forth on small foot bridges crossing the canals. It is a delightful walk to discover the neighborhood, surrounded by nature and elegant houses. Don’t miss it, it is after all one the most beautiful places to see in LA!
You’ve got a lot to see and do in Venice. So don’t be scared to enter the bohemian LA quarter and take advantage of the sun, the beach, the entertainment and the diversity surrounding you – food, art and shopping wise.
