LA – known for the glamour of Hollywood and luxury of Beverly Hills, and of course you all know the walk of fame with the Stars of the Stars! Of course these are must-sees for a first trip to Los Angeles, but don’t forget there is so much more to Los Angeles than just stars on a side walk. To be honest, the Walk of Fame and the Chinese and Kodak Theater are worth a short visit, but if you don’t want to spend your time and money at the typical LA tourist destinations, you should also check out some other cool places in Los Angeles. Getty Center
Santa Monica is home of the the Getty Center. This museum has gathered an impressive collection of the 20th century European and American Art. The Getty Center is a must see in Los Angeles for its fascinating galleries, architecture and gardens. You are promised an unforgettable experience. So make sure to have it at the top of you “things to do in Los Angeles” list! And the best thing about it: Admission is free! All you have to pay is for parking ($ 10/car/day).

Los Angeles County Museum of Art
If you like Monet this is your museum. It exposes the “Water Lilies” collection, but as one of the largest Art collections in the world, there is much more to see. Definitely the best place in LA for you, if you love Art! Check it out!

Page Museum – La Brea Tar Pits
California is beautiful with its palm trees, sunny days and crowded beaches… La Brea Tar Pits will give you a great behind the scenes look of a quite different California. Learn about a quite different and definitely colder era of California… during Ice Age! The Page Museum is a geological, science and paleontological museum where you can discover one of the largest fossil collections in the US.

Museum of Tolerance
The Museum of Tolerance is a great place to learn and think about history, culture and the role we play in the world. This museum gives you an introspective look at theĀ  history of racism and prejudice against peoples during the 20th century. A more contemplative activity, but very informative!

But Los Angeles has a lot more to offer than just museums. Here are a few more suggestions to put on your schedule for LA.

Venice Beach Boardwalk
Venice Beach Boardwalk a different world. It is crazy, over the top and loud, but definitely a must see, when you are in LA. You are surrounded by a mix of cultures, arts and creativity in a funky atmosphere. This place is like no other. Enjoy the great diversity of the people, get a Henna Tattoo and watch the bodybuilders flex their muscles for you. California Science Center
The California Science Center is definitely the place for kids! It is divided in 4 galleries presenting different aspects of science that kids can discover and learn aboutĀ  thanks to hands-on exhibits. Your kids will have a blast with all the interactive activities.

Angeles National Forest
Los Angeles is a large city, so why not take a break from it? The Angeles National Forest is another thing to do while visiting Los Angeles. The Angeles National Forest invites you for a hike, swim or just to enjoy the scenery; or you can take full advantage of a break from the big city and use the camp grounds or organize a full day trip.

There are so many things to do in Los Angeles that you will have to visit again… but at least, now you have a list of things to do in Los Angeles that might be a true alternative to Disney Land and the Walk of Fame.
