Discover the Best San Diego Neighborhoods

San Diego is a city rich in attractions, beautiful scenery, and great restaurants. San Diego is the second largest city in California and there are so many things to see. A little help knowing which of the San Diego neighborhoods are the most worth visiting can make your trip a lot more exciting! So follow me to discover the best San Diego neighborhoods.

Pacific Beach – the Dude neighborhood

Also referred to as PB, Pacific Beach is the typical beach community where everyone is chill, and somewhat adopt that surf attitude! You’ll find beautiful beaches, great for kids, beach girls and surfer dudes. It is also a great place to stop for some shopping. You have a large choice of coffee shops and restaurants while walking along the main street, Garnet. For breakfast, we recommend Kono’s by the pier, if you are looking for the best potatoes and scramble eggs with a fresh orange juice. You will want to come back to try the rest of the menu. Cafe 976 has a great salad and sandwich menu for lunch – avoid weekend breakfast there, too crowded! PB is very popular for college kids, so it also offers a great night life as you can hop for bar to bar just walking down the street.

La Jolla – the Chic Neighborhood

Just North of PB, you find will La Jolla. This is actually not a San Diego neighborhood, but a separate city, with diverse points of interests. What we can call “downtown La Jolla”, along Prospect Ave offers you a lot of shopping possibilities and restaurants choices. It is a good place to find fine dinning restaurants. Walk towards the ocean and you will find the seals taking over the rocks by the Children’s beach. The park is a great place to relax during the day, and during summer time, free concerts are organized there. If you keep your trip to the north side along the coast of La Jolla you will find the best beach for kids. Right by the Marine Room – which is a great place to have breakfast during high tide to watch the water rise against the restaurant windows – the beach is large and the water calm and shallow enough for children to have a fun day in the water.

Take a walk on the Pier in OBOcean Beach – the Hippie Neighborhood

Ocean Beach (or OB) is that cute little neighborhood where every one in friendly and super nice. On the main street, Newport Ave, you can find a bunch of antique shops, clothing stores and bars and restaurants. Walk on the Pier and check out surfers waiting for that perfect wave, and enjoy the view of San Diego. If you have a dog, this is your new favorite spot! OB is well known for it’s dog beach. They too, get to enjoy a few waves and sandy paws. Once you get hungry, you have to try Hodads, they serve the best burgers in town, and the ambiance is just worth it! If you’re in for some Mexican food, Nico’s makes the best California Burritos.

Hillcrest – the Hip Neighborhood

Hillcrest offers a lot restaurants, bars and hip clothing stores. You can find all types of cuisines. This is also the gay and lesbian San Diego neighborhood. It is a great place to come for happy hours and nightlife. Mo’s is a restaurant to go to anytime of the day. They have a great menu for any meal of the day, great happy hours and an awesome friendly atmosphere. If you are in the mood for party on a Sunday, Mo’s is the place to be, starting already in the afternoon! If you want to enjoy some good wine, try Wine Steals. It is a nice Wine bar, with a a good selection of wine and great appetizers and yummy pizza. Hillcrest is a really friendly neighborhood, and always great for a safe fun night out.

San Diego is a beautiful city with great neighborhoodsDowntown – the Business Neighborhood

Downtown San Diego is where you will find most of the business offices, and pretty much the only skyscrapers in town. The Gaslamp Quarter offers one of the most popular nightlife scenes in town… but be ready for dress codes and cover charges. It is a very dynamic neighborhood, with a lot of restaurants, pubs, bars, and boutiques. If you don’t find what you want while shopping in the streets, the Horton Plaza mall is right there too. Also check out Little Italy and Seaport Village, where you find nice restaurants and places to hang out and relax!

When you are in PB or La Jolla, don’t forget to drive up Mont Soledad. You will get the best panoramic view of San Diego, all its neighborhoods, one next to each other. Well you’ve got quite a lot to see and do when in San Diego. Enjoy each and every San Diego Neighborhood, you will never want to leave!
