Legoland California in San Diego

Who does not know those tiny plastic figures and bricks we all used to build houses and farms with? Just as we did, our children and even our grand children now live the joy of assembling new constructions and creating architectural wonders in the kid’s room, Legoland California in Carlsbad, CA does the same. Just bigger. Much bigger.

Legoland San Diego 2007

What to see at Legoland California:

Only 30 miles north of San Diego, you will become a child again, and you see children’s eyes blooming. Legoland California offers more than 50 attractions for kids between 2 and 12, and is constantly expanding. This year, the Legoland Waterpark opens at the end of May, right on Memorial Day weekend! So pack the family into your car and test the splash! There will be several slides for singe riders, groups of up to four, toddler areas and body slides. No matter which one you chose – bring a little patience for the lines, and of course your towel!

For those of you who want to save the $10 extra to the normal admission fee of $67 by skipping Legoland Waterpark, you are going to miss out on something very exciting for sure. However, there are many other adventures that will keep you and your loved ones busy for at least one day! Take a ride in the dragon at Knight’s Kingdom, allow the kids to ride their own horses at the Royal Joust, or let them run on the Hideaways, the playground our young ones will love for sure. You like sightseeing and traveling? Don’t go any further – Mini Land USA has the country’s most important attractions and fitting scenery built from the little bricks.
More than 15,000 different figures in the whole park are made out of Lego bricks, a total of 35 million bricks has been used to build them! It’s hard to imagine how many warehouses this could be. Any idea?

Legoland California in Carlsbad offers more though than just pure entertainment. It teaches basic driving skills at Volvo Driving School, makes up for the missed visit at the gym at the Fun Town Fire Academy and even shows you how the famous little Lego stones get molded, colored and packed.

Directions to Legoland California:

Fox Rent A Car Goes Social: Aids Walk 2010

Good news for the community! Fox Rent A Car proudly announced to organize Fox Rent A Car employees as teams for the Aids Walks 2010 in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Orange County! After the car rental special for Earth Day 2010 has been a great success, we decided to help the community even more and participate in this important cause against Aids and HIV. Fox will cover the registration fees of all of its team members at any of the three runs, and will also provide their lunch covers. But this is not enough! Fox Rent A Car will double your donations for the Orange County AIDS Walk through our Team Page up to a total of $ 10,000! Here you can read more about this! Our fans will be able to identify all Fox Rent A Car runners and walkers by their Fox t-shirts and we are looking forward to meeting you!

Here are the 2010 AIDS walks Fox Rent a Car will participate in:

May 22, 2010: Orange County Aids Walk

The Aids Walk in Orange County has been established for a long time. You’ll be surprised to learn that the first Aids Walk in OC was in 1986! Until 2001, more than $10 million got donated to charities and those in need.  Last year, more than $500,000 in donations were collected, and for 2010 the Aids Walk in Orange County has an even bigger goal: to raise $650,000, which will get donated to nine local agencies.

July 18, 2010: Aids Walk San Francisco

Not surprisingly, the San Francisco Aids Walk is much bigger than the one in Orange county, yet it started one year later. More than $74 million (no kidding!) in donations got raised for HIV programs since then. Last year alone, 25,000 Aids Walk participants raised a total of $3.5 million! Register here to become a part of this unbelievable crowd in the City by the Bay. To see what you will deal with, see the pictures of the San Francisco Aids Walk 2009.

October 17, 2010: Aids Walk Los Angeles

The last Aids Walk in 2010 for which Fox Rent A Car will set up a team will be the one in Los Angeles. With a total amount of more than $59 million since 1985, the Aids Walk has become the most important, and the most successful, Anti-Aids event in Los Angeles county. Registrations for the walk open in June 2010, so save the date and then visit their website.Aids Ribbon

What’s next?

It will be an incredible feeling to be part of all three Aids Walk events and we will be taking and publishing as many pictures of our Fox Rent A Car employees and the AIDS walks as we can. We are looking forward to share each and every moment of happiness and giving back, of sharing and achievement with all of our fans and co-walkers! Stay tuned to see how many Fox employees have supported this cause, how much money Fox Rent A Car could raise in the end, and also share your experiences of those extraordinary events. We are looking forward to your stories and are curious why you decided to participate in the Aids Walk in Orange County, in San Francisco or in Los Angeles.

The community needs our help and yours too, so let’s work on this together. Here is a list of all Aids Walk locations in the United States and other parts of the world. Happy Running!

Memorial Day 2010 in Southern California

The Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner and you still have no idea how to welcome summer 2010? Here are some ideas of what you can do around our Fox Rent a Car locations in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles. Whether you plan to travel to beautiful Southern California or live close by, some of the events we present to you may get you off your couches. If you are planning to visit Northern California on Memorial Day weekend, read our post about Memorial Day Getaways in Northern California.

Things to do on Memorial Day in San Diego:

Being a military town, San Diego offers a variety of events and ceremonies for the fallen soldiers. The probably most impressive event will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. The Memorial Day Service starts at 10am and next to showing your respect to San Diego’s fallen ones, you can lose yourself in the impressive view from the Cemetery over Coronado, San Diego Downtown and Cabrillo Momument. Or, if you have not been there yet, visit the exhibition Japanese Americans in the Military at the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center. The exhibition will end on May 31st, so hurry up! More info and how to get there are on the Balbo Park website.

In Coronado, you can visit Coronado Star Park, where a ceremony will be held from 10am. Getting to Coronado that weekend plus finding parking may be tricky, so allow yourself enough time for both to be on time.

There are a number of fun things to do too this Memorial Day weekend in San Diego, you can find an awesome list here:

Things to do on Memorial Day in Orange County:

Orange County has a lot to offer this Memorial Day weekend. Services and Ceremonies are mostly held on May 28th in all major cities, such as Anaheim, Fullerton, and San Clemente. The Orange County City Guide provides you with a complete calendar so that you can choose where to go. Afterwards, you can spend the rest of the day on the beaches, stroll through the malls, go fishing or BBQ at your favorite park. For those of you who are in Anaheim on Memorial Day weekend, you can see Disneyland Park’s firework at 9.25pm every night.

Things to do on Memorial Day in Los Angeles:

Just a little up North from Orange County Memorial Day gets more culturally influenced. There is an art festival in Hermosa Beach, Cajun Creole Music Festival in Simi Valley, St. Nicholas Valley Greek Festival in Northridge, and the Annual Topanga Days Country Fair. Sounds like a lot of fun exploring music and arts, enjoying Greek food and entertainment!

Of course, there are also the obligatory Memorial Day Ceremonies, among others in Forest Lawn, where you can attend any of their Patriotic Memorial Day Program on May 31st. A detailed list of locations is on the Forest Lawn website.

Tell us your plans!

So where will Memorial Day take you in 2010? Will you plan a trip, or rather stay local? What is your favorite spot for the Memorial Day? Tell us and all of our readers what you like to do, help non-locals in preparing their trip and eventually even meet some of those people at the events! We are looking forward to hearing your plans and stories!

Fox Rent A Car presents: Cinco De Mayo 2010 in California

Fox Rent A Car presents: Cinco De Mayo 2010 – The History

Cinco de Mayo, means 5th of May. This day, though celebrated in the United States, has nothing to do directly with American history; it is not the celebration of the Independence of Mexico from the US. It commemorates the day in 1862, when the Mexican militia was able to push back the French army out of the region of Puebla, limiting its invasion of Mexico and fighting the French leadership over the Mexican territory.
It is not really celebrated in Mexico, and, understandably, not celebrated in France. However, Cinco De Mayo has become an important commercial holiday in the United States and is celebrated every year through various events.

Fox Rent A Car presents: Cinco De Mayo 2010 – Events

San Diego: Every year Cinco de Mayo is a popular celebration in San Diego. Every year the Fiesta de Cinco de Mayo takes over Old Town with various activities for a fun family weekend. The streets are full of entertainment, music and crafts. All the restaurants are full of goodies and specialty dish to have a full Mexican culture immersion.

Los Angeles: Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles is quite an important event! On Olvera Street, music and dancers come celebrate with you and entertain you the weekend before Cinco de Mayo (May 1st and 2nd), May 5th and also the weekend following (May 8th and 9th), all day long! It is a great celebration of the Mexican culture not to miss. Though not happening in May, the Fiesta Broadway is also consider part of the celebrations for Cinco de Mayo and open the way to the rest of the celebrations. It is a really large event in Downtown LA, a street fair where you can listen to great music, find wonderful crafts and try delicious dish, all representing the Mexican culture.

Orange County: Orange County has one of the largest Mexican-American communities and therefore organizes a great family oriented event the weekend before Cinco de Mayo each year . On May 1st and May 2nd, 4th Street in Santa Ana become the ground for great live entertainment, display of various activities, with games, music, dancers, and lots of fun for every one of all ages.

Fox Rent A Car Presents: Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

This year Mother’s Day is on Sunday May 9th , 2010. Have you already started planning your mother’s day? Do you know how to surprise you mother and make her feel special this year? If not at Fox Rent A Car, we have a few tips to share to help you celebrate her day and make her feel very special! Here is a list of gift ideas to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day: Gift Idea #1 – Spa weekend

Mother’s day is all about celebrating the love and care you mother has given you over the years and show her your appreciation. Mother’s day is about thanking her for always being there and her unconditional love. So what could be a better Mother’s Day gift idea to thank her and make her feel special than a Spa weekend? It gives her the opportunity to have a weekend all about her, relax, get all the attention she deserves and be treated like a queen!
If you want your gift to last longer, instead of getting her a spa weekend, you can get her a spa membership, so that she can take advantage of it when she feels like it. Many spa places offer packages where you can buy a certain numbers of massages and other treatments to be used at her convenience.

Mother’s Day: Gift Idea #2 – Weekend Getaway with her best friend

Another great Mother’s Day gift idea is to plan her a fun weekend getaway with one of her best friends. Not the one where you all go together, because you should plan that the rest of the year! No, one weekend where it’s all about her! Give her a little freedom. You could plan a loving weekend with her husband… but that wouldn’t be all about her really! Make sure to plan something she would like, not what you would want. Remember it is Mother’s Day; it’s about her! Send her to a wine county such as Santa Barbara or Sonoma Valley to change her mind with beautiful scenery, great cuisine, and a nice hotel. Or send her to a fun destination such as Palm Springs for a relaxing weekend with great shopping, dining, and relaxing opportunities, as well as various outdoors activities.

Mother’s Day: Gift Idea #3 – Maid Service

A mother has given all her time to her family, taking care of the kids, cooking, working, cleaning… and got very little time for herself. A great way to thank her for all she has done is by finding a way to make her load of duties lighter! So, why not get her a maid as a Mother’s Day gift?! Instead of cleaning the house she would now be able to spend time doing something for herself, what ever this might be! There are many maid services available, here are tips on what to look for and how to chose the best one.

Mother’s Day: Gift Idea #4 – A workshop or class

Find out what she likes to do or would like to learn and as a Mother’s Day gift, get her a workshop or class to do it. Painting, sculpture, ceramics, poetry, cooking… whatever she is interested in and likes to do, you can get her a class to express her passion! This is a good opportunity for her to escape her daily routine and do something different where she can focus on something else than the worries of the daily life!

Mother’s Day: Gift Idea #4 – If your Mother lives far away

If you are not lucky to be close to your mother because of geographic reasons, a great Mother’s Day gift idea is to find a way to get her closer. If your mother is computer literate, get her a webcam and dedicate a few hours a week to spend time with her, let her see her grand kids and be part of your life. If she is not really into computers, but willing to learn, get her classes to teach her how to use the web cam and the programs so she can reach you! If computers are not her interest at all, then you need to find something else than a communication tool to make her feel special. Mother’s Day: Gift Idea #5 – Out of the Ordinary

To make your mother feel special it is a great gift idea to find something she normally doesn’t get to do. An original Mother’s day gift idea would be tickets for special events such as theater, opera, ballet… a show she would appreciate. The important thing to do when buying this gift is to make sure you buy a gift certificate, not a ticket for a specific show so that your mother gets to chose which show and when she wants to go. Then it is really her choice and you are sure she will fully enjoy it!

Of course, you can always stay with the typical, flowers card chocolate and perfume type of Mother’s Day gifts. But hey! It’s one day a year, so why not make your mother feel extra special by finding gift ideas for an extraordinary original Mother’s Day!
