Get yourself a GO Los Angeles Card. You can buy this before you start on your trip and activate it when you use it for the first time. There is an option to buy a card that is valid for a day to those that are valid for the entire week. It is a good idea to plan your sightseeing before you buy the card so that you know that places that you want to see. The Hollywood CityPass that costs less than $50 allows admission to a large number of attractions related to the motion picture industry. Then there are other combinations that you can get that explore parks and museums and historic sites. Do not forget that some of the best LA attractions are for free too. What to do in Los Angeles: Discover Los Angeles for Free

Take a walk down Sunset Boulevard. It is, after all, a very popular street with a name mentioned in so many movies, you can’t miss it! Reach Rodeo Drive and check out this famous shopping area where “Pretty woman” did her shopping. Then find Hollywood Boulevard and check out the hand prints in front of the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, and along the Walk of Fame with the stars along the sidewalk! You can also visit the Chinese Theater, but it is not free. While you are there, a lot of movie star impersonators  will try to get photographed with you; be aware, this isn’t free as well!

You can also hike to the Hollywood sign. Well technically not exactly to the sign, but close enough. The hills around it are accessible by car and some have small easy hiking trails to get you away from the houses and closer to the sign. You can really enjoy a great view of the city. Don’t forget to also check out Venice Beach and Olvera Street, it is free to cruise there and there is a lot of fun things to see, even if it is just for a walk by the ocean or people watching in Venice Beach or to observe a different culture on Olvera Street.

On the Fox Rent A Car Facebook Page, we receive lots of questions regarding different payment policies and options. So we’re going to set the record straight!  You can rent a car with Fox Rent A Car using your debit card, credit card, or a cash rental if you meet all the requirements. If you’re traveling soon, be sure to check the specific location to double check.  Our policies may be different at different locations. Here is what you need to know about Fox Rent A Car payment policies.

Debit Card Policy:

Meet all standard rental qualifications (i.e. Age Restrictions, Driving Credentials, Additional Drivers, etc.)

Debit Card must have a Visa or Master Card logo (Debit Card and Drivers License must be in same name). Debit Card must have available funds of $400.00 plus estimated amount of rental charges to be taken as a deposit at time of rental. Upon return of the vehicle unused funds will be returned through the credit card processor used to secure those funds at time of rental. Due to your Banks processing standards of Debit Card transactions it can take up to 14 days for a credit to appear back on your account.

Debit Card use (at Time of Rental) not available on the rental of Elite Luxury, Premium Luxury, Luxury, Full Size SUV, and Standard Convertible car classes.

Present a return airline ticket (actual or electronic ticket in renters name)
OR:
If you dont have a return airline ticket, Fox will check your credit through Equifax Credit Information Services. The inquiry is posted on the customers credit report and may have an effect on the customers credit evaluation.In the event that a customers credit inquiry fails to meet our Debit Card criteria, the customer will not be allowed to rent unless they provide a major credit card in their own name. Our debit card policy complies with all applicable U.S. federal and State Laws.

Credit Card Policy

Major credit cards: Valid drivers license and credit card must be in the same name. Credit card must have available funds of $150.00 or estimated amount of rental charges whichever is greater. At time of rental credit card funds will be taken as a deposit against rental charges.
NOTE: We do not accept the miniature key tag style credit cards.
NOTE: Unused funds will be returned through the credit card processor after vehicle return. Due to bank processing it can take between 2 to 5 days to appear back on your account when using this form of payment.

Cash Rentals

Cash rentals: In order to utilize CASH (as opposed to major credit card) as a qualifying Method of Payment at Time of Rental, the following conditions must be satisfied:

1. Have a reservation – Available on rental of vehicle class Economy thru Full Size only.
2. Present a current valid Passport from a country other than the United States.
3. Present a valid International License along with a current valid license from same country as passport.
4. Present a return airline itinerary with confirmation of return travel date. Vehicle must be returned prior to return date and time of departure as stated on flight confirmation itinerary.
5. In U.S. currency, leave a Cash Deposit of $250.00 plus estimated amount of rental charges.
6. A U.S. Contact Phone Number – an operating phone to be contacted in case of emergency while the vehicle is on rent.
7. Unused funds will be mailed back to customer which may take up to 2 weeks after return.
NOTE: Cash is not accepted as a method of payment at time of rental at our Phoenix, Arizona or Oakland, California locations.

Prepaid cards: Prepaid Visa/MasterCard are not accepted as a form of payment at time of rental.

Payment at car return: Debit cards, prepaid Visa/MasterCard, and cash always accepted as payment upon return

Special/Premium Elite Vehicles: May be available and would require a major credit card with available funds of USD/250.00 plus the estimated charges taken as deposit at time for rental – no debit / check cards or cash rentals. Minimum age is 25 and vehicles must be returned to the renting location.

One of the most common questions when renting a car with Fox Rent A Car has to do with car rental insurance coverage. This post was actually inspired because of several questions resolving Fox Rent A Car’s insurance options. The purchasing of any FOX optional protections provides you with peace of mind and assurance that you are protected against any damage. Please remember that it is optional, and not required to rent a vehicle. You should also call your own auto insurance company to see if they have rental car coverage as well. So without further ado, here are the rental car insurance options that Fox Rent a Car provides.

Rental liability coverage (RLP) – Car Rental Insurance with Fox Rent A Car

Primary insurance protecting you against claims made by third party for bodily injury and/or property damage sustained while operating the rental vehicle, up to the required financial responsibility limits of the state in which the vehicle is license. Does not cover all situations that may arise while operating a rental vehicle. Cost: $12.99 per rental day.

Supplemental Liability Coverage (SLP) – Car Rental Insurance with Fox Rent A Car

This coverage is excess over underlying insurance specific within your signed rental agreement up to 1,000,000 dollars. Protects you against claims made by third party for bodily injury and/or property damage sustained as a result of an accident while operating the rental vehicle. Does not cover all situations that may arise while operating a rental vehicle. Cost: $11.99 per rental day.

Personal Property/Personal Accident Coverage (PPC) – Car Rental Insurance with Fox Rent A Car

Personal property coverage protects against damage to personal effects owned by the renter, as well as immediate family members of the renter, who permanently reside in the renters household and are traveling with the renter. Personal accident coverage provides accidental death and accidental medical expense benefit to the renter and their passenger (s). The death and medical expense benefit will both pay in addition to any other coverage that might be applicable to the renter or passengers. Cost: $7.99 per rental day.

Loss Damage Waiver (This is Not Insurance) – Car Rental Insurance with Fox Rent A Car

This is a waiver for damage to the rental vehicle only. When accepted at the time of rental FOX Rent a Car will waive the right to collect for damages to the rental vehicle when the vehicle involved in an accident. Cost: Economy, compact and midsize $9.00 per rental day / standard, full size, SUV, mini van, convertibles, luxury, premium, specialty $15.00 per rental day.

Mexico Insurance – Car Rental Insurance with Fox Rent A Car

FOX offers the purchase of Mexico Insurance (Major credit card only) on vehicle rentals of economy thru full size only. Mexico insurance must be purchase at a FOX location in Los Angeles, San Diego or Phoenix at the time of rental or prior to entrance into Mexico. Rates start at $25.00 per 24 hour day including tax. Hybrids and other vehicles not allowed traveling into Mexico. Travel is allowed to cities in Mexico close to California and Arizona border

Headaches, fatigue, insomnia, disorientation, mild depression and diarrhea. Now I’m not talking about your family reunion, but your flight to and from. These awful symptoms are commonly associated with jet lag. Flying across time zones (east < ---> west) upsets your internal clock. Over time, your body actually becomes accustomed to patterns of daylight and nighttime, and it adjusts to regular intervals of sleeping, eating, and temperatures. Jet lagis the generic term associated with all of these symptoms and affects of the body. Luckily, there are several proactive steps you can take to hopefully avoid jet lag the next time you travel.

Live Healthy – Avoid Jet Lag

It’s recommended that people live healthy day-to-day lives including sleep, exercise, and a healthy diet. This is important because it’s much easier to avoid jet lag and bounce back quickly when you’re healthy. You should also think about what medical conditions you might need to monitor, and if there is any medication you’ll need to bring along on your trip. Finally, it’s recommended that you try to begin adjusting to the difference in time before you even leave. So try to adjust your body’s internal clock by waking earlier or staying up later accordingly.

Stay Hydrated – Avoid Jet Lag

Many people drink alcohol when flying to help sleep or get over their nerves of flying. However on longer excursions, this should be avoided. Alcohol has been proven to disrupt your normal sleeping patterns and REM cycles. It’s also a diuretic, which means it contributes to dehydration. Caffeine and soft drinks are also popular diuretics, so it’s suggested that you cut back on coffee and other carbonated beverages. Instead, try opting for water and tea or other natural drinks that will help you stay hydrated.

Remember to Move – Avoid Jet Lag

Let’s face it: flying today forces you to fold up in your seat like a canned sardine. It’s really important to get up and move around or stretch every one to two hours. This encourages blood flow, which awakens your muscles and keeps your senses alert. In order to stimulate blood flow, don’t hesitate to go to the back or another open area and do some light exercises. This movement isn’t just to avoid jet lag, but will also help reduce inflammation and the potential for blood clots as well.

Eat Balanced Meals – Avoid Jet Lag

Eating healthy, balanced meals while flying is your foundation to avoiding jet lag. Your food intake will have a significant impact on your sleep, inflammation, hydration, and recovery from jet lag. Remember to avoid fried foods and sweets high in sugar. Foods high in sugar and sodium will cause dehydration, and short spikes of energy followed by longer periods of irritability. Look for Cafe’s in food courts, where you can get natural sandwiches or soups and salads.

Plenty of Sleep – Avoid Jet Lag

If you’re flying longer distances, especially overnight, then you should try to take a little nap. This is also a great way to catch up on some rest and sleep before you arrive. When your plane touches down and you arrive at your location, try to adjust to the local time as soon as possible. Even if that means having to stay awake longer, it will help you to adjust to your new time zone the fastest without having to suffer through jet lag.
