5 Tips to Discover LA on a Budget with Fox Car Rental

The entire fun of a trip vanishes completely when you see that you are going beyond budget and that you are likely to spend way more than what you had initially planned. Unless you are driving down on your own and are a very disciplined about your spending, it is very likely that you can end up exceeding your original budget irrespective of the place that you are visiting. And if the place is LA, then you can be sure that you may over spend on eating or shopping, if not sightseeing and rides for the kids. There are too many ways in which you can spend your dollar in LA when you are a tourist, while not even getting the value.

Here are some tips that you can use to show you that discovering LA on a budget works:

Los Angeles on a Budget: Rent a car

One of the best ways to discover any new place is to have your own means of transport. While you may opt for the daily scheduled city ride in a bus, you may still want to have the freedom of going to the places that you and your family fancy rather than getting stuck to the pre scheduled routine of a tourist bus. Especially in Los Angeles you need a car, since public transportation is rather scarce. There are various car rental options that you can find and compare prices. Make sure that you check the car before you hop on to it. Safety is the highest value you want to get for your money!

Los Angeles on a Budget: Choice of accommodation

Especially when you are traveling with family, it is always a good thing to book accommodation in advance. A little research here can get you the best deals that you are looking for. This is even more important in LA since you have a large variety of hotel and resort options that range from the most luxurious to the most affordable. Check out a business hotel that offers good deals on weekends. Make your choice of accommodation based on how far it is from the main areas that you would like to go to. You do not want to end up spending too much on gas either.

Los Angeles on a Budget: Time of Travel

Remember that the time of your travel will also affect the amount that you spend per night per room. Days closer to national holidays and weekends are likely to cost higher. While LA is always buzzing with activity, it is better to avoid the time around the Rose Parade and the bowl game on New Year’s Eve. Avoid the summer due to the extreme heat that LA gets, but spring and autumn are both good to go. Choose to stay in LA on a Monday and you may have a deal for yourself.

Los Angeles on a Budget: Sightseeing on a budget

Get yourself a GO Los Angeles Card. You can buy this before you start on your trip and activate it when you use it for the first time. There is an option to buy a card that is valid for a day to those that are valid for the entire week. It is a good idea to plan your sightseeing before you buy the card so that you know that places that you want to see. The Hollywood CityPass that costs less than $50 allows admission to a large number of attractions related to the motion picture industry. Then there are other combinations that you can get that explore parks and museums and historic sites. Do not forget that some of the best LA attractions are for free too. The Getty Museum, a stroll down the Venice Beach, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, TV Show Taping, La Brea Tar Pits and the California Science Center are experiences that you would not want to miss.

Los Angeles on a Budget: Dining easy

It is tough not to fall for the lavish spreads that you can see in the expensive restaurants. While you may accommodate one elaborate meal with your family for the experience, it might be a good budget idea to opt for regular restaurants at other times since you may repent the over zealousness, the next morning! Fox Rent A Car wishes you a great time discovering Los Angeles on a budget.

Fox Car Rental presents: Fall Getaway Ideas in Southern California

Fall is one of the best times to visit any place in Southern California. This is mainly because of the fact that the months from July to October are extremely busy and therefore the prices are sky high. But the great thing is that the weather in Southern California allows you to visit places like South Lake Tahoe, San Diego, Orange County and LA even during fall. In fact, planning a trip to any of these cities in fall is more judicious than planning a vacation during peak summer.
The fall foliage colors provide some of the best visual experiences across the world. Some of the options for a fall vacation that you have are covered here.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Southern California Beaches

In the fall you will find that the exceedingly crowded beaches of Southern California have suddenly been deserted. Unless you were interested in the trip to get some ‘eye candy’ this can be a great option for you to relax and get in touch with yourself and your partner. The beaches at Santa Cruz and San Diego have great parks on the edge of the water and make for a good day.

Fall Getaway Ideas – San Diego Events

Besides the visit to Seaworld and the zoo there are generally a large number of events that are planned during the fall season in San Diego. You can catch the annual festival of Beer in September or be part of the Julian Fall Apple Harvest. The mid September restaurant week is a gourmet’s delight as the San Diego International Film Festival is for the movie buffs.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Disneyland

When talking about vacations to Southern California, Disneyland cannot be given a miss. At the southern end of LA in Orange County this is a completely different world on its own. Located about 20 miles south of downtown LA in the city of Anaheim, the park stays open from 10am to 6pm almost every day. There are special days when it stays open till midnight in winter too. While you are here, you can also explore California Adventure, a park for the adventurous with an airborne tour of the Golden State.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Carmel Valley

Visiting Carmel Valley around Halloween is a great option because the place just comes alive in the fall months. The Carmel Valley Ranch with a soft crackling fire in the evening can prove to be a great location to spend Halloween this year.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Camping

Taking a camping trip with your partner can become an extremely adventurous and fun filled vacation. You can choose to go to the Ventura County Campgrounds or choose any of the various San Diego Camping Grounds at Mission Bay. You can also choose some in Santa Barbara or the Malibu Creek State Park too. If you want to spend some time with the pines and wildlife and foliage, check out the Big Bear Lake. Highlights of this include filmmaking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, and quiet chateaus for relaxation.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Wine Tasting

The best wine tasting getaway that you can hope for in Southern California is the Temecula Sunny Valley. Rolling hills, vineyards and wineries and their romantic charm calls out to those looking to take a break from the humdrum of regular corporate life.

Labor Day Events in Southern California

Labor Day is a day when people across the world celebrate the efforts of workers in achieving social and economic development. The origins of the holiday lie in the labor union movement that initiated the 8 hour working day. While the concept of Labor Day exists across the world, different countries celebrate it on different days. For example, Australia celebrates it on the first Monday of October and New Zealand on the fourth Monday in October. The United States and Canada, however, celebrate Labor Day on the first Monday of September.

The first Labor Day was celebrated in 1882 in New York City. It was initially celebrated with a street parade to showcase the spirit and strength of trade and labor organizations. Later the Sunday preceding Labor Day was declared as Labor Sunday and was dedicated to furthering the knowledge about the labor movement. Over time Labor Day has become a holiday that is associated with the end of the summer season and the last weekend to use for partying and having fun before returning to school. It is typically celebrated with picnics, barbecues, fireworks, water sports and public events that are organized.
Some of the Labor Day events organized in specific cities in Southern California are mentioned below.
