Things To Do on Alki Beach in Seattle, WA

It is hard to deny that summer has finally arrived – isn’t it great? Warm and nice temperatures, smiling people and lots of things to do will get you off your couch or hotel bed! One of Seattle’s favorite spots for the nice summer days is Alki Beach, a 2.5-mile beach in West Seattle. Due to the Northern location and cold waters, this beach is not the best place for swimming. But what else could you do on a beach? Fox Rent A Car knows the Things to do on Alki Beach and shares the information with you. Have a great day at Alki Beach!

How to Reach Alki Beach

Alki Beach is located southwest of downtown Seattle facing the Elliot Bay. You can reach it either via car over the West Seattle Bridge, there is free on-street parking available. You may however experience some delays in finding a spot when weather is nice. Another option is the water taxi, which leaves between Pier 55 and Pier 56. Each way it costs you 2 dollars and you can catch the free DART shuttle which takes you to Alki Beach.

Things to do on Alki Beach

Alki Beach will get you through your day. Whether you are active and love sports, or just want to chill ad relax, whether you come on your own or with family & dogs, there are plenty of things to do on Alki Beach. You can go jogging, hiking, biking, or roller skating. What do you think about taking a walk on the beach, enjoying the water and a picturesque view of Seattle’s skyline? If you like to be here with your friends, you can have bonfires in the fire pits available on the beach, have a BBQ or play beach volleyball – you must bring your own net though. You can also lay down on the grass or the sandy beach and get your summer tan. If you want to get into the water (be careful, it only has about 56°F in the summer!), try some paddle surfing. No matter what you do, at some point you will get hungry and its time to hit one of the countless bars and restaurants close by to get some fish & chips. Take them To Go and eat it while watching a beautiful Seattle sunset. You will be amazed how fast a day on Alki Beach can go by! The next time you visit Alki Beach, stop by at the Alki Point Lighthouse or the Log House Museum. The lighthouse has no admission, the Log House Museum only asks for a voluntary donation. Both places will tell you a lot about the history of Alki beach ad the Denny party, the first white settlers who arrived in Seattle in 1851. The museum will also tell you about the Duwamish people, the Native Americans who used to live here before Alki Beach got discovered. For this event, you should also check the obelisk as well as a Statue of Liberty replica which reminds all visitors that Alki used to get called New York-Alki.

What is your plan?

Fox Rent A Car wishes you a great time at Alki Beach. What do you like most being there, and what would you never do? Tell us your stories and share your favorite spots with our readers!

Fox Car Rental presents: Top 5 Low-Budget Spas in Seattle

Seattle has much to offer. Whether you are visiting during the nice summers or during the cold winters, there is always a lot to see and to do. Sometimes, you just need a little relaxation to get away from the daily stress – so why not going to a nice and affordable spa? Fox Rent A Car knows the best spas in Seattle, that are great and cheap!

Banya 5

This spa is Russian-style and offers you a steam room, pools, sauna and various relaxation rooms. If you go there you will get everything you need: a locker, towels, slippers, body wash and lots of fun and relaxation. The sauna and steam room are mixed, so you wear your swim suit when you go there. It’s a perfect getaway for a couple! The best is that you can stay there for as long as you want – there is no time limit. The early birds will also enjoy the discounted prices before Banya 5’s rush hour starts.

Hothouse Spa & Sauna

The Hothouse is a tiny place that can offer you heaven. It’s a women-only place that strictly reinforces its quiet policy. While you may end up chatting at the Banya 5, this will not happen here. It is clean and affordable, and staff offers a towel and locker, as well as soap and filtered water. Hothouse has a hot tub, a steam room and a sauna, and the shower area. Small, but cheap and a great place to relax! You can only pay in cash here, so leave your credit cards at home.

Imperial Foot Massage/ Sunset Foot Care

This place is a wonderful and very cheap massage place! Whether you need a Swedish massage or a sports massage, head massage or full massage – you will get a great treatment at a very great price! Sunset Foot Care is – as the name says – famous for its foot massages. For one hour you only pay $29! The place is clean, staff is friendly and welcoming and you can come here at every day of the week. Parking is easy, nearby, and free!

Gary Manuel Aveda Institute

This place is a stylist school and you are getting treated by the students, who get checked by their supervisors and teachers. This may sound a little risky, but it is not. You can get very nice haircuts at incredibly low prices, but they also offer facials, body polishes, back treatments, waxing and make-up. All you need to bring is a little time, since the students work slower as the graduates at salons and spas. However, you will end up just paying a fraction of the price here than at those places.

Madison Avenue Nail Spa

Not only your hair, skin and muscles need a little TLC, but your nails do too. Madison Avenue Nail Spa takes great care and offers fantastic manicures and pedicures. The pedicure bonus is a great foot massage that you will not get at any other nail spa! At the same time, you will be seated in very comfortable massage chairs and time will just fly by!

So whether you are a local or a visitor in Seattle, you should try these cheap and great spa places! Get yourself some pampering and beauty, as well we relaxation and happiness – all at a great price! You know about other places that we have not listed or want to share your experiences about those 5 top cheap spas in Seattle? We are looking forward to hear from you!

Fox Car Rental: Fishing in Seattle

During the summer months, Seattle is the perfect location for great fishing trips in freshwaters and salt waters. But where should you go for good fishing? The Fox Rent A Car-team knows the spots that provide the most fish, the best opportunities to relax and to enjoy the beautiful nature close to the Canadian border.

Fishing in Seattle: Green Lake

Green Lake is a neighborhood in North Central Seattle, which also is home to a beautiful lake that is great for short fishing trips. Fishes you can find include catfish, rainbow trout, bass, and bullhead. Sometimes you can even catch a carp.

Fishing in Seattle: Duwamish River

The Duwamish River is part of the Green River that goes through Washington State and empties into the Elliot Bay. You can come here fishing for pink, sockeye, bull trout and sea-run cutthroat trout. Studies show that some of the fish is unhealthy to eat, so you may want to limit your trip to fishing only.

Fishing in Seattle: Hidden Lake

Hidden Lake is located North of Seattle in Shoreline. It is in a very beautiful area and a great spot to relax and enjoy being outside. You can catch Rainbow trout here, other fishes you can find are rather small.

Fishing in Seattle: Washington Lake

Washington Lake is the huge lake between Seattle and Bellvue, WA. You can find a whole variety of fishes here, such as different kinds of salmon, bass, and trout.

Fishing in Seattle: Angel Lake

Angle Lake gives you great opportunities to fish for Rainbow Trout and Kokanee salmon, as well as Yellow Perch. The Lake is located close to Sea Tac airport, yet due to frequent restocking allows you to make a good catch.

Fishing in Seattle: Echo Lake

Echo Lake is located between Shoreline and Edmonds. It is a quite small lake where you can catch Rainbow Trout and Yellow Perch.

Fishing in Seattle: Union Lake

Union Lake is located between the neighbourhoods of Capitol Hill and Green Lake. Often, salmon swim through this lake on their way to Washington. Lake Union is close to the Highway 5, so its easy to reach. You can find bass, yellow perch, crappie, and catfish here.

Fishing in Seattle: Puget Sound

Salmon and Halibut is what you will find here at Puget Sound. The Pudget Sounds is a bay that has many channels and branches, so you will definitely have room for a nice fishing trip without hitting someone else. Fishing is possible year-round.

Fishing in Seattle: Bitter Lake

Bitter Lake is a Trout lake, located on the Broadview/ Bitter Lake neighbourhoods. Trouts are being put in the lake every spring. Other fish you can catch are sunfish, bass and brown bullhead catfish.

Fishing in Seattle: Star Lake

About 20 miles South of Seattle is Star Lake, a lake that has Rainbow Trout, Yellow Perch, Brown Bullhead and Largemouth Bass. The lake is pretty small so you will have to deal wish other fishers.

Fishing in Seattle: Haller Lake

Haller Lake is home to the Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass and Yellow Perch. It is in close proximity to Bitter Lake, so if one lake is too crowded, go to the other one. Haller Lake is partially private, but it has two public access areas that allow to you get onto the lake with your boat.

Whichever lake you prefer and we have not listed it, let us know! We are looking forward to hearing your fishing adventures in Seattle. If you only visit Seattle but want to go fishing, try a Fishing Tour Guide. There are plenty of them across town and they show you the right spots and provide you with the necessary equipment. The Fox Rent A Car Team wishes you a great fishing day in Seattle!

Fox Rent A Car Tips for Traveling with Grand Children

Statistics show that more and more grandparents take their grand children on a vacation. While in former days, the kids visited their grandparent’s houses, today all of them discover new places and have their travel adventures together! Which kid (and his or her parents) can say no to this opportunity? Travel Industry Association of America found out that 30% of all U.S. American leisure travelers who are grandparents, took their grand children on one trip or more! Did you know that there is even an official name for grand parents traveling with their grand children? It’s called grand travel! Even more and more kids and teenagers feel confident traveling with their grand parents – but what should all of them know and consider? Fox Rent A Car prepared a list of useful tips for traveling with grand children:

Travel with Grand Children: Medical Security and Official Documents

Make sure you have copies of the medical cards for all of your grand children, as well as permission from the parents that you can make medical care decisions! Note – you will need a notarized letter in case of an emergency. Also take all prescription cards, make sure your grand children have  dental insurance and their insurance is valid in the location you will go to! Always have a list of emergency contacts with you. Also, you need to make sure your grand children have a valid ID card with them. Eventually, even take their passports too. This is a worst case scenario, that nobody wants to happen, but if it does, it helps if you are prepared.

Travel with Grand Children: Planning Phase

Who decides where to go to, what to do, where to stay, when to travel? It may take a little longer to prepare everything, but discuss options with your grand children. Where would they like to go to? What can you do with them, and what is just too much for all of you? Combine your experiences and their creativity; the results will amaze all of you. You can also plan by using senior and kids’ discounts – in the end you will pay less with those discounts than using a family ticket!

Travel with Grand Children: On the road/ airplane

Remember how it was when you traveled with your own children? They needed to be entertained, especially in those “boring times” of sitting in the car, on the airport or in the train. Make sure you have some games handy, some music or books. Try to do something exciting with your grand children – they can watch their DVDs at home, too. Play and learn, isn’t that what grandparents offer to their grand children? Also check out our collection of posts about traveling with kids.

Travel with Grand Children: Your trip

Again – playing and learning is what your trip should be about. Show your grand children that there is a life without TV, computer and Xbox. In the end, it is just like in the old days: the more energy the children use during the day, the better they will sleep at night and the more comfortable they will become to spend time with their grand parents. Respect each other though – the world has simply changed so much during the past decades, you may just need to accept new hobbies, as weird as they may be for you! Consult the parents if you are not sure. Also, don’t forget that the kids won’t get tired as easily as you will!

Travel with Grand Children: After the trip

When everybody gets back home, its always a feeling of relief, but even a little sadness since the adventure “grand travel” is over. But take a few hours, and prepare a little presentation of your trip with your grand children! Using their computers to show the pictures, tell everybody what a wonderful trip it was! Be a good example of a person, parent and grand parent, and enjoy the time with the little ones as much as you can!

Have you traveled with your grand children before? Where did you go to, and what advises do you have for other grand parents? What is a must-do, what is a must-not-do? Share your stories and experiences, and help grand traveling even more!

Fox Car Rental presents: Golfing in Seattle

Fox Rent A Car presents: Five Cheap Golf Courses in Seattle

Summer is starting and everybody is heading out to get as much outdoor entertainment as possible after this long, hard, and cold winter! This also means that the high season for golf courses begins. But where should you start looking? Fox Car Rental will present you the best golf courses at all of our locations, so stay tuned to see which city or region is next! This time, we present you the 5 best golf places in Seattle, WA. Enjoy a nice game with spectacular city views!

Golfing in Seattle: Interbay Golf Center

Not a fancy golf course, but a place to go to just to have fun, to practice your techniques and to see how you do! Interbay Golf Center offers 80 covered stalls and even 40 heated stalls, so you can even go there when it rains, at night time or when its too chilly too be on the golf course. A bucket of balls is quite affordable and if you go there before 9am, they will even double the number of balls in the bucket. A real penny saver and a great place to spend your time at!

Golfing in Seattle: Greenlake Golf Course

This is the place to go to if you are a beginner or just don’t like annual memberships. Greenlake golf course offers affordable golfing fun, it is great for family trips or a good place to hag out with your friends. If you can, go in the morning hours to avoid long waiting times. The holes at Greenlake Golf Course range from 65 to 105 yards, so quite some room to practice.

Golfing in Seattle: Jackson Park Golf Club

Again, this golf club is owned by the City of Seattle so it is open to the public and quite affordable. Just as Greenlake Golf Course, the Jackson Park Golf Club is a good place for those who want to practice and discover their hidden golfing talents. You will for sure need some time to finish all holes, so plan ahead and avoid the park’s “rush hours”.

Golfing in Seattle: Foster Golf Links

This golf course got completely remodeled a few years ago and offers great, yet affordable golfing. The ranges of the holes are quite short, which may be motivating to some newbies or impatient players. This also means that you can keep your kids entertained and motivated, while you enjoy the scenic views.

Golfing in Seattle: West Seattle Golf Course

This course is good for those of you who are already experienced golfers. Its courses have some elevation changes and winding fairways so in order to keep up with other players, you should already know what you do. Beginners may feel rushed over the course. It is, just as several other courses we have listed, a municipal golf course which allows you to play at a reasonable price and you will never forget those awesome views of Seattle!

Golfers’ Feedback Needed!

Whether you are a visitor or a local, we think you should definitely try those golf courses. The best time to go is on weekday mornings so if you have a day off or plenty of time – have fun! However, we are always eager to learn more, so please let us know how you liked those places, or which ones everybody must know!
