Salt Lake City has some nice public swimming pool and Fox Rent A Car knows, which ones are the best and most exciting ones.
Public Pools in Salt Lake City: Steiner Aquatic Center West
During the 2002 Winter Olympics Steiner Aquatic Center West served as an official training venue. Besides a full fitness center there are two ice sheets and, most importantly, two Olympic sized pools! The 25-yard indoor pool is open year round, and during the warmer time of the year there is a 50-meter outdoor pool that you can enjoy. The pools are good for children too, as there is an attached wading area for the little ones. If you want to take classes, you can do that here too: lifeguard and swimming classes, water polo and even water aerobics will get you in shape.
Public Pools in Salt Lake City: Fairmont Aquatic Center

Public Pools in Salt Lake City: Centenial Pool in West Valley

Public Pools in Salt Lake City: Murray City Park Swimming Pool in Murrey
This is a place where you could spend a few days and still have not tried it all! There are three swimming pools: one lap pool, one leisure pool and an outdoor pool. Its your choice which one you pick! Besides many classes and trainings there are a lazy river current, an in-water jungle jim, a water slide, water toy features, diving boards and much, much more. If you need your kids to be very tired at the end of the day, take them here.

Even though the summer months are not the ideal time for hikes, many families can only go hiking between July and September, the time when their kids have their summer break from school. But how can you be prepared for a long hike during 90 degrees F? How can your body and mind stay active enough to not only keep you safe and sound, but also lets you enjoy your summer hike? There are a few things you must consider when you go hiking in the summer, and we at Fox Rent A Car will get you on track!
Summer hike: Start early!
If you go hiking in the summer you do not want to start late. Only the early bird catches the worm! Start your hike when the sun goes up so that you walk while it is still cool. No summer hiker wants to leave the house in the heat of midday, since this is not only uncomfortable, but even a health hazard.
Summer hike: Drink and eat!
Give your body a lot of water. A hiker does lose a about 1/2 to 1 quart of water each hour of hiking, so carry to least that much water with you plus twice as much for the return hike. If you plan a longer hike and don’t like carrying water bottles, try the camelbacks. Those ones hold plenty of water and you carry them on your back. Also, you should pack some small snacks that you can eat during your hike. A salty snack is best since it will help your body to retain water.
Summer hike: Cool your body down!
When you go hiking on a hot day it is very important that you cool your body down as much as you can. You can either buy a misting system, or you put a moist towel on the back of your neck which will help to keep your body temperature stable. Don’t panic if you start to sweat while hiking, this is very important for your body and a normal reaction. Try not to wear a hat, as it will keep the heat in your body. Rather use a sunscreen as protection for your eyes. The best cooling system however is to jump into a small river keeping your clothes on. This will cool your body down for a long time.
Summer hike: Dress accordingly
How should I dress when I go hiking in the summer? Many people ask themselves this question and there is a simple answer. Wear long pants to protect and cover your legs. Many hiking pants that you can buy won’t make you sweat and let the wind go through. Wear a short-sleeved shirt, or a thin long-sleeve shirt that breathes and lets air cool your body down naturally.
Summer hike: Always hike in groups!
You should never hike alone, especially when it is very warm. Always have at least one other person with you so that you can watch each other and check that both of you drink enough water. You should have a cell phone handy and a map where you can clearly see where you are at. This was you can get found in case of an emergency, or plan how to get back home safely.
Take your time and enjoy your hike!
Don’t forget that you are hiking, and not in a competition. Hiking in warm weather already is very demanding for your body so make sure you know your personal limits and stay comfortable. The Fox Rent A Car team wishes you a great and relaxing summer hike!

Not only humans enjoy taking a cooling bath in a lake or swimming pool, but also our lovely pets. Unfortunately, many places either do not allow dogs at all to be there or only to walk with you on the leash. Fox Rent A Car knows what to do! We have found out where you can take your dog swimming in Salt Lake City, your dog’s summer is saved!
Dog Swimming in Salt Lake City: Rotary Glen Park
This park is a little hard to find, but the search is definitely worth it! The dog park area at Rotary Glen Park is close to a major road, but it is fenced and neither pets nor owners or drivers have to worry about any accidents caused by dogs or cars. The main bonus of Rotary Glen Park is a huge pond. Located in the middle of the dog park area, every dog loves to jump into the water to enjoy that extra piece of fun! Make sure you bring a towel to get your dog dry and cleaned before you take him or her back home.
Dog Swimming in Salt Lake City: Mill Creek Canyon Off Leash Dog Area
This area has a few restrictions towards off-leash times. You can take your dog here and let him or her run freely only on odd numbered days. This is however not allowed on all trails, but only on the Big Water train, Great Wester trail, Little Water, as well as Neff’s Canyon and Pipeline Trail. You have to make it to Dog Lake in the middle of the canyon; your dog will go crazy about this adventure!
Dog Swimming in Salt Lake City: Tanner Park’s Parley’s Way Dog Park
If you have a very active dog this is the place to go. There is a 2.5 round trip hiking trail in the park that gets your dog nicely tired and relaxed. Then stroll to the middle of the park, where you will find a beautiful creek. If the currents are not too strong your dog will have a great time cooling down, playing with other dogs and enjoying water games, while you get your break after the hike and watch your pet as happy as he or she can only get! This is place is dog heaven.
Give your dog some time off and entertainment on those warm summer days! After a long and hard winter it is time to explore Salt Lake City’s dog swimming places – and who knows who you and your dog will meet there!

This 7-mile trail is ideal for family trips, since it is easy to ride even for the little ones. Starting from Draper City Park at 1300 East and 12500 South, it will guide you down South to Bangerter. It is ideal to spend the day outside on the bike, going very easily and smoothly.
Biking Salt Lake City – Mueller Park Trail:
This is a great trail for hiking, biking and even horseback riding! For 7.5 miles you will get guided from the Mueller Park Picnic Area up to North Canyon, and back again to Mueller Park. This is a great trail for a relaxing bike ride, however it can get quite busy during the nice summer weekends.

Biking Salt Lake City – Mill Creek Pipeline:
With a lower altitude, this mountain biking trail stays open from mid-April through November. The total length from the beginning at the Elbow Fork to the view point and back is 14 miles. You need to be in a good condition and this trail is too hard for children and those of you who just started mountain biking. However, there are four ways to exit the trail when you feel its getting too much.

Statistics show that more and more grandparents take their grand children on a vacation. While in former days, the kids visited their grandparent’s houses, today all of them discover new places and have their travel adventures together! Which kid (and his or her parents) can say no to this opportunity? Travel Industry Association of America found out that 30% of all U.S. American leisure travelers who are grandparents, took their grand children on one trip or more! Did you know that there is even an official name for grand parents traveling with their grand children? It’s called grand travel! Even more and more kids and teenagers feel confident traveling with their grand parents – but what should all of them know and consider? Fox Rent A Car prepared a list of useful tips for traveling with grand children:
Travel with Grand Children: Medical Security and Official Documents
Make sure you have copies of the medical cards for all of your grand children, as well as permission from the parents that you can make medical care decisions! Note – you will need a notarized letter in case of an emergency. Also take all prescription cards, make sure your grand children have dental insurance and their insurance is valid in the location you will go to! Always have a list of emergency contacts with you. Also, you need to make sure your grand children have a valid ID card with them. Eventually, even take their passports too. This is a worst case scenario, that nobody wants to happen, but if it does, it helps if you are prepared.
Travel with Grand Children: Planning Phase
Who decides where to go to, what to do, where to stay, when to travel? It may take a little longer to prepare everything, but discuss options with your grand children. Where would they like to go to? What can you do with them, and what is just too much for all of you? Combine your experiences and their creativity; the results will amaze all of you. You can also plan by using senior and kids’ discounts – in the end you will pay less with those discounts than using a family ticket!

Travel with Grand Children: On the road/ airplane
Remember how it was when you traveled with your own children? They needed to be entertained, especially in those “boring times” of sitting in the car, on the airport or in the train. Make sure you have some games handy, some music or books. Try to do something exciting with your grand children – they can watch their DVDs at home, too. Play and learn, isn’t that what grandparents offer to their grand children? Also check out our collection of posts about traveling with kids.
Travel with Grand Children: Your trip
Again – playing and learning is what your trip should be about. Show your grand children that there is a life without TV, computer and Xbox. In the end, it is just like in the old days: the more energy the children use during the day, the better they will sleep at night and the more comfortable they will become to spend time with their grand parents. Respect each other though – the world has simply changed so much during the past decades, you may just need to accept new hobbies, as weird as they may be for you! Consult the parents if you are not sure. Also, don’t forget that the kids won’t get tired as easily as you will!
Travel with Grand Children: After the trip
When everybody gets back home, its always a feeling of relief, but even a little sadness since the adventure “grand travel” is over. But take a few hours, and prepare a little presentation of your trip with your grand children! Using their computers to show the pictures, tell everybody what a wonderful trip it was! Be a good example of a person, parent and grand parent, and enjoy the time with the little ones as much as you can!
Have you traveled with your grand children before? Where did you go to, and what advises do you have for other grand parents? What is a must-do, what is a must-not-do? Share your stories and experiences, and help grand traveling even more!
