St Patrick’s Day Parades 2010

Time is passing so quickly and it is already time to get ready for March Festivities. The famous Irish celebration – St Patrick’s Day – is celebrated all over the United States the weekend before and /or after the 17th of March. So what are your plans this year? To help you figure out how to participate in the St Patrick’s Day fun, here is a list of fun St Patrick’s Day Parades for 2010.

St Patrick’s Day Parades in Las Vegas

Of course this great city so often visited for the party scene also has many parties to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Las Vegas organizes a great parade downtown on Water Street each year. This parade is free to access. The whole town is painted green for the occasion and many parties take place everywhere.
If you are looking for something a bit more specific, and higher standards, the Mandalay Bay Casino plans each year an important event to celebrate the St Patrick’s Day festival. There are live performances, beer gardens, Irish music and a concert. This event is not a public event, so you need to buy tickets to attend.

St Patrick’s Day Parades in Los Angeles

One of the most important St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Los Angeles is the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Hermosa Beach. The festivities start at 11 am and include a large entertaining parade with lots pf dancers, music and floats! Of course every year, downtown Los Angeles organizes a St Patrick’s Day Parade with marching bands, Celtic music and a lot of people! St Patrick’s Day Parades in Orange County

The Annual St Patrick’s Day Festival of Costa Mesa starts at 9am and will go all day until 4pm with Irish dances, music and great entertainment. Come celebrate at Market Place.

St Patrick’s Day Parades in Phoenix

Whether this occasion is to support your Irish heritage, or simply another reason to party, you can find in Phoenix a fantastic day of celebration . It starts with the St Patrick’s Day Parade at 10 am and is followed by the St Patrick’s Day fair. Just like most other cities, Salt Lake City offers on March 13th, a St Patrick’s Day Parade, which covers 7 blocks! Floats, marching bands, Irish music, green beer, silly hats and beads will also be part of the typical celebration. Make sure to get your green hat on!

This year in San Diego the great St Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival will take place on the 13th of March. It starts at 11am, in downtown San Diego. The parade is a fun event where besides drinking green beer, you can watch clowns, marching bands and such celebrating the Saint Patron of Ireland. But that’s not it, you can also follow the celebration in Balboa Park from 10 am to 5pm. This parade has 2 stages with dancing, music, food, and beer garden to celebrate the Irish culture. This event might be a bit more appropriate for kids.

St Patrick’s Day Parades in San Francisco

The St Patrick’s Day celebration in San Francisco is a 2 days event! The St Patrick’s Day Parade is on Saturday, March 13th at 11:30 am, but the fair and festival in honor of the Irish Culture lasts until Sunday with booths of arts and crafts, music, food and of course the famous beer gardens. So find the Civic Center and you will find the party!

St Patrick’s Day Parades in Seattle

You don’t have to be of Irish descend to claim St Patrick’s Day party day! Downtown Seattle is expecting you for its annual green celebration. The St Patrick’s Day Parade starts at 12:30. The festival will follow until 6pm, with booths, music, and a lot of people!

Mardi Gras Events

Mardi Gras Events in San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Seattle

February 2010 is a great month of celebrations! Just after celebrating Valentine’s day,Mardi Gras is taking place on February 16th this year. This French celebration, based on a Catholic tradition, is a time of celebration, dressing up and eating sugary treats  before the fasting period of Lent. Even though Mardi Gras goes on for a couple of weeks, the most important day is also known as Fat Tuesday. This day is celebrated with carnivals and parades, where people get to wear masks and costumes… a European version of Halloween! So are you ready for the celebrations? Here is a list of the best Mardi Gras Events you might want to check out !

Mardi Gras Events in San Diego

There are 2 main parades on Fat Tuesday for Mardi Gras in San Diego.
- The first Mardi Gras parade takes place in Uptown San Diego, Hillcrest to be exact, from 6 to 11pm. As this neighborhood is the gay and lesbian neighborhood, the parade is each year quite colorful and fun to watch, folkloric, and always grandiose! Drag queens will be performing on the street, a DJ will attract you to the dance tent, and of course liquor is available at boothes. Make sure to buy your tickets before to save $5!

- The other parade on Fat Tuesday takes place in the Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego. This parade is bigger than the Mardi Grad parade in Hillcrest. It starts at 6 pm but last until midnight and the celebration includes 2 masquerades parades, at 7:30 and 10 pm, various stages, DJs, dancers, and of course bars and restaurants will be open to help you celebrate in the best possible ways!

Mardi Gras Parades in Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, the Fat Tuesday celebration will take place on a Saturday this year! So come on the Strip, on the 25th of February to celebrate Mardi Gras this year. It starts at 4 pm with a parade that will take over the Strip from Harrah’s casino to the Flamingo. It takes 4 hours for the Mardi Gras parade to move along with marching bands, shows and street performers.

Mardi Gras Events in Phoenix

In Phoenix, though it is not as folkloric as the first one mentioned, the celebration of Mardi Gras are attached to a cause: the Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona. The Mardi Gras Gala takes place on the 16th at the Arizona Science Center. The evening will present an auction followed by a concert and some gambling, between 6 and 10 pm. Come celebrate this great social event while supporting a good cause!

Mardi Gras Events in Seattle

A popular way to celebrate Mardi Gras in Seattle for the past years has been a copy of the famous Brazilian Carnaval. This year it will be on the 20th on February, so come celebrate Antonio Carlos Jobim’s memory with great music and dancing all night long at the Columbia City Theater from 9 pm to 1 am.

New Orleans, Las Vegas and San Diego are the most famous destinations across the US to celebrate Mardi Gras every year. However many other cities have smaller celebrations or certain bars plan great events to make sure you have a fun Mardi Gras.

Traveling with Children In San Diego

San Diego is a great family vacation destination, especially during the summer due to its numerous beaches and fun family activities. The rest of the year, even though you might not be able to enjoy the beach as much, there are still a lot of things to do that your kids will love! So don’t worry about them not having a good time! Here is a list of the best attractions to visit when traveling with children in San Diego.

Traveling with Children In San Diego: Animals

All around San Diego there are a lot of opportunities for you to take your kids and pay a visit to the animals!
The San Diego Zoo is one of the best Zoos in the US. The animals are not in small cages but have large spaces  designed according to their natural habitat, and the park is quite large and pleasant to walk around for a few hours.
The Wild Animal Park is even better because you get to see animals in their recreated environment and can watch them going about their lives, while learning about them during a train ride through the park.
Sea World is another great place to take your children while traveling in San Diego. Watch different shows, with dolphins, sea otters, and of course the famous Shamu show! It is another full afternoon that the whole family will enjoy!
The Birch Aquarium is another wonderful place for kids and grown ups in San Diego. It present lots of interesting exhibits, teaches you about the ocean and its wonders. You can also enjoy a beautiful view of the coast while touring the Aquarium.
The Seal Tour is a really fun adventure in San Diego for the whole family. What can be more fun than a car that turns into a boat? This open-air vehicle takes you around San Diego to teach you about the city, and then on the water for amazing views of the bay.

Traveling with Children In San Diego: Amusement Parks

Though you are in a city that is most famous for its beautiful beaches, you might want to include something a different for a day or two during your vacation. The Wave Water Park can be a good alternative. Let you kids burn energy and have a blast!
Legoland might not be for teens, but if you have younger kids, they will enjoy it. The park offers a lot of diverse attractions with a lot of fun for the whole family. From rides to shows you will have a full day ahead of you.

Belmont Park is right next to the beach so you can just stop on your way there or after. This park is a great place for everyone, with activities for younger kids, and fun rides for older kids. Parents can shop a little at the same time, and you can easily find a place to snack for lunch.
To plan a great family game evening or afternoon, check out Boomers. There are arcade games, miniature golf, go karts… lots of ways to show your competitive side!!
Finally, thought it is not an amusement park per say, the Balboa Park Miniature Railroad can be a fun stop, especially for younger kids. It is a really short adventure, but kids always like trains, so riding one in the middle of beautiful Balboa Park can make their day!

Traveling with Children In San Diego: Special Toddlers

The Reuben H. Fleet Science Museum is for everyone, with lots of great exhibits, hands-on to learn and play and a Imax Theater, so it can be a really fun time for the whole family. But especially if you have toddlers, this museum is better than the rest of the museums since it offers an exhibit called “kid city” where they can have a great time playing with others in a small town setting.

One of the great things about San Diego, when traveling with children, is all its beautiful parks and weather that let’s you take full advantage of them! Every neighborhood has many small parks with fun playgrounds so it is quite easy taking your kids for some fresh air and let them burn some energy and interact with other kids. You will see especially on weekends, all the locals will be there!
But if you happen to be in San Diego on one of the rare rainy days or during a really warm summer day, you can also find an indoor playground – Kid Ventures. Valentine’s Day Romantic Getaways in San Diego

For Valentine’s Day weekend you are looking for something romantic. What can be more romantic than the beach? San Diego is a perfect destination to show how much someone means to you!

For lunch, make reservation at the Green Flash for another great meal by the ocean. Make sure to call ahead of time as it’s a popular place. As the sun comes down early, if you want to eat while enjoying the ocean, it is better to do it before 4, hence the romantic meal by the ocean during lunch!
Then you can follow by a visit in Balboa Park, stop by the fountain, maybe the Botanical Garden, and if you had a light lunch head toward Hillcrest for the most fantastic dessert place in town: Extraordinary Dessert. Is there after all a better way to tell someone you love him or her than with a delicious slice of chocolate cake!!
Finally at night, you can treat your special someone to something special and different, such as a play at the Old Globe theater or for something even more romantic, a movie at the drive-in where you can enjoy and share a special evening alone with everybody else!

Free Things to Do in San Diego

San Diego is a very diverse city with lots of attractions and great neighborhoods with various events year round to keep you busy during your visit. But to have fun and stay busy in San Diego you do not always have to spend money. There are also quite a few free things to do in San Diego.

Free Things to Do in San Diego: Nature & Sport

You can easily enjoy the nature and get a bit of exercise for free during your visit of San Diego. There are various hikes all around town. Mission Trails Regional Park has many great hiking trails which are all fun, interesting and with beautiful views.

Cowles Mountain: As part of the Mission Trail Regional Park, this is a perfect hike for every one. Not to hard, not to steep, this hike can fit the need of various levels hikers; just take more time to get to the top if you need to. It gives you a really nice view of San Diego County. Parking at the bottom is free.
Torrey Pine State Reserve: is another great spot for hiking in San Diego. Just north of La Jolla, you can find different trails. There is a parking fee to enter the Reserve. However, depending on the hike you choose, you can find free parking around it.
If you don’t want to hike, you can also just ride your bike along the bay or take your roller skates and enjoy the ocean breath while cruising along the beach!
Fly fishing lessons: But there is more than just hiking in San Diego. Have you ever done fly fishing? Me neither. But to get a first taste, the San Diego Fly Fisher Club offers free lessons every Sunday morning at 9 am. Don’t worry about equipment, they will provide it free of charge, but you have to be there a bit earlier.

Free Things to Do in San Diego: Discover the City

The best way to discover a new city and to take advantage of all its attractions and sights is to walk around. There are quite a few places in San Diego, which are worth your time, and absolutely free for you to enjoy!
Walk around Old Town: This Mexican quarter of San Diego is very pleasant to walk through. You have a lot to see. Boutiques, little shops, Mexican restaurants, and diverse historic places can teach you a bit about the Mexican culture and the city itself. It almost feels like being in Mexico, but without the hassle of crossing the border.
Walk Around Coronado Island: This beautiful neighborhood is great to walk around, especially on a sunny spring or summer day. The houses are very charming, and most of the gardens splendid. You can also go admire the beach, one of the largest beaches in San Diego.
Free Harbor Tours around San Diego Bay: The Port of San Diego offers 2 hours tours to help you learn every thing about San Diego for free. You get to learn about the organization of the port itself but also history facts about the city while enjoying a beautiful view of San Diego Bay from the Ocean. After you enjoy the tour, you can walk around Seaport Village and check out all its boutiques.

Free Things to Do in San Diego: Art

Ray at night: Every second Saturday of the month, an art gallery event takes place on Ray Street in North Park. After 7 pm all the Art Galleries of the Street open their doors to introduce you to new and trendy artists, while welcoming you with drinks and goodies. Artists present their painting, sculptures, and ceramics. Music guides you through your walk. It is a great time to discover this San Diego neighborhood and art at the same time.
Taylor Guitar Factory Tour: Have you ever heard of one the finest Guitar makers in the US? Taylor Guitar. If you like music and if you are passionate about guitars you will find this free activity quite interesting. At 1 pm, between Monday and Thursday the factory offers free tours where you learn every step  of the guitar making process.

Of course, you can also enjoy the San Diego beaches for free, or go fly a kite at the bay, and go watch the seals in La Jolla. Winter Activities In San Diego

San Diego is a very active city with a lot of fun things to do all year long. Even though you might not believe it, but it does get a little cold in the winter. Daytime Winter Activities in San Diego:


Once you’ve discovered all the neighborhoods and enjoyed all the popular attractions San Diego has to offer, there are still a lot of other fun winter activities waiting for you.

- Ice Skating
Every year, in front of the Horton Plaza Mall in Downtown, an ice rink is built for fun ice skating adventure. The rink is opened from 10 am to 10 pm. It gets pretty crowded on the weekend, but for $12, you should expect a lot of people to be interested!
- The Poinsettia Display
If you like flowers, another great winter activity in San Diego is to visit the Poinsettia display in the Botanical Garden of Balboa Park. It is free from Friday to Wednesday. Every flower has something unique to appreciate, and the poinsettias give the garden the perfect Christmas touch.
- The Big Bay Balloon Parade
On December 30th, starting at 10 am, the Big Bay Balloon Parade goes on in San Diego! Kids love this winter activity. A Balloon parade... something you just can't miss!While enjoying the magnificent view of Downtown San Diego and the Bay, you will be amazed by the large balloons floating above you, each more impressive than the other. It is the largest balloon parade in the US. It is really worth it and promises a fun time. San Diego offers a lot of evening winter activities as well.

- The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
On December 20th, put on your warm sweaters, warm coats and scarves and go to San Diego Bay Downtown. As we enter the Holiday Season, a special night to start the celebration is organized on the water! A Parade of 80 boats, decorated, full of lights float from Shelter Island to Coronado, accompanied by firework. It starts at 5:30 pm. Don’t miss the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights!
- Newport Art Walk
Every last Saturday of the month, in Ocean Beach on Newport Ave, the Newport Art Walk takes place from 7 to 10pm. It is a fun evening activity to plan, especially during the Holiday Season, as the street is decorated with Christmas lights. So come enjoy art, food and music.

Winter is a great season for fun activities in San Diego

- The Grinch at The Old Glob Theater

Every year the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park presents the famous Dr. Seuss’ play: How the Grinch stole Christmas. It is truly an awesome, joyful and cheerful evening activity to share with the family that will put you in the right mood for Christmas. Songs, humor and amazing decor make this play a must during Christmas.

Of course, You can also plan a fun day sledding in Julian, followed by a hot apple cider and a nice slice of apple pie. Or you can even plan a fun ski adventure in Big Bear. And don’t forget, if it is cold outside and you don’t want to spend the all day at home, Balboa Park Museums are free every Tuesday nights, allowing you to walk around the park, hoping from museum to museum!
