Due to the recent heavy rain in Southern California, the main road to Big Bear, CA (Highway 330 through Highland) has been closed indefinitely for road repair.

Big Bear Lake, CA is Southern California’s closest ski and snowboarding destination. Located just 25 miles northeast of San Bernardino, it’s just a short drive from Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and San Diego counties. The two main slopes are Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Remember when traveling to mountain areas to always carry tire chains! While this may slightly cut in to your travel plans, there are still 3 options open according to the Big Bear Lake Resort Association.

Routes to Big Bear Lake:

Highway 18 through Crestline

Directions: Take Interstate 210 east to Waterman exit in San Bernardino. Take Waterman north to Highway 18. Continue on Highway 18 through Crestline. Stay on Highway 18 to Big Bear Lake.

Highway 38 through Redlands

Directions: Take Interstate 10 east to Redlands. Exit at Orange Street. Take Orange Street north to Lugonia Avenue. Turn right at Lugonia Avenue to Highway 38. Stay on Highway 38 to Big Bear Lake.

Highway 18 through Lucerne Valley

Directions: From the high desert and Las Vegas take Interstate 15 to Victorville. Exit at Bear Valley Road east to Lucerne Valley. Turn right at Highway 18. Stay on Highway 18 to Big Bear Lake.
Directions: From the low desert take Highway 247 north to Highway 18. Turn left at Highway 18. Stay on Highway 18 to Big Bear Lake.
