10 Best Green Travel Resorts in California

Green travel resorts are basically environmentally friendly properties that have owners who are dedicated to the green movement. They are enthusiastic to initiate programs to save water, energy and reduce excessive waste that is otherwise generated in luxury hotels. Even though such properties require a higher level of initial investment, green resorts are aware that going green is in the benefit of the property and the earth at large in the long term.
Contrary to general belief, a green property can add all the savings that it gets in energy, water and recycling towards its bottom line. Energy management systems like fluorescent bulbs, linen cards, light out cards, motion sensors and more add to the savings at the end of the day.

The top 10 green travel hotels in California have been listed here if you would also like to contribute to the green movement and opt for an environmentally friendly hotel or resort.

1.    Green Travel Resorts in California: Pelican Cove Inn, Cambria

Located just across Moonstone Beach, this luxurious hotel offers cooked breakfast in the morning, wine in the afternoon and each evening meal is accompanied by dessert. A spacious lounge where you can enjoy the fireplace in one of the large cozy sofas is always at your disposal. A part of a line of hotels that pride themselves in gardening, this hotel also features a specific kind of garden. Toiletries are provided in dispensers to avoid the increasing landfills. An organic kitchen is maintained to ensure that the vegetables that you consume are completely fresh and clean.

2.   Green Travel Resorts in California: Terranea (LA’s ocean Front resort)

Dedicated to energy saving with its energy saving fluorescent lighting and low voltage devices, this resort claims a saving of 3 watts per square foot. 3.    Green Travel Resorts in California: Post Ranch Inn

4.    Green Travel Resorts in California: Gaia Napa Valley Hotel

This property should be applauded for being the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified gold property. Here the tiles and carpets are recycled and the wood is harvested from mangled forest. But this property is as luxurious as any other in terms of the comforts that it provides its guests.

5.  Green Travel Resorts in California: Bardessono

Fox Car Rental presents: Fall Getaway Ideas in Southern California

Fall is one of the best times to visit any place in Southern California. This is mainly because of the fact that the months from July to October are extremely busy and therefore the prices are sky high. But the great thing is that the weather in Southern California allows you to visit places like South Lake Tahoe, San Diego, Orange County and LA even during fall. In fact, planning a trip to any of these cities in fall is more judicious than planning a vacation during peak summer.
The fall foliage colors provide some of the best visual experiences across the world. Some of the options for a fall vacation that you have are covered here.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Southern California Beaches

In the fall you will find that the exceedingly crowded beaches of Southern California have suddenly been deserted. Unless you were interested in the trip to get some ‘eye candy’ this can be a great option for you to relax and get in touch with yourself and your partner. The beaches at Santa Cruz and San Diego have great parks on the edge of the water and make for a good day.

Fall Getaway Ideas – San Diego Events

Besides the visit to Seaworld and the zoo there are generally a large number of events that are planned during the fall season in San Diego. You can catch the annual festival of Beer in September or be part of the Julian Fall Apple Harvest. The mid September restaurant week is a gourmet’s delight as the San Diego International Film Festival is for the movie buffs.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Disneyland

When talking about vacations to Southern California, Disneyland cannot be given a miss. At the southern end of LA in Orange County this is a completely different world on its own. Located about 20 miles south of downtown LA in the city of Anaheim, the park stays open from 10am to 6pm almost every day. There are special days when it stays open till midnight in winter too. While you are here, you can also explore California Adventure, a park for the adventurous with an airborne tour of the Golden State.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Carmel Valley

Visiting Carmel Valley around Halloween is a great option because the place just comes alive in the fall months. The Carmel Valley Ranch with a soft crackling fire in the evening can prove to be a great location to spend Halloween this year.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Camping

Taking a camping trip with your partner can become an extremely adventurous and fun filled vacation. You can choose to go to the Ventura County Campgrounds or choose any of the various San Diego Camping Grounds at Mission Bay. You can also choose some in Santa Barbara or the Malibu Creek State Park too. If you want to spend some time with the pines and wildlife and foliage, check out the Big Bear Lake. Highlights of this include filmmaking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, and quiet chateaus for relaxation.

Fall Getaway Ideas – Wine Tasting

The best wine tasting getaway that you can hope for in Southern California is the Temecula Sunny Valley. Rolling hills, vineyards and wineries and their romantic charm calls out to those looking to take a break from the humdrum of regular corporate life.

Labor Day Events in Southern California

Labor Day is a day when people across the world celebrate the efforts of workers in achieving social and economic development. The origins of the holiday lie in the labor union movement that initiated the 8 hour working day. While the concept of Labor Day exists across the world, different countries celebrate it on different days. For example, Australia celebrates it on the first Monday of October and New Zealand on the fourth Monday in October. The United States and Canada, however, celebrate Labor Day on the first Monday of September.

The first Labor Day was celebrated in 1882 in New York City. It was initially celebrated with a street parade to showcase the spirit and strength of trade and labor organizations. Later the Sunday preceding Labor Day was declared as Labor Sunday and was dedicated to furthering the knowledge about the labor movement. Over time Labor Day has become a holiday that is associated with the end of the summer season and the last weekend to use for partying and having fun before returning to school. It is typically celebrated with picnics, barbecues, fireworks, water sports and public events that are organized.
Some of the Labor Day events organized in specific cities in Southern California are mentioned below.

Labor Day Events at San Diego

The WET Labor Day Pool party is being organized at the Siren Lounge on 5th Avenue on September 4th, 2010. The party starts at 1pm in the afternoon all the way till 2am the next morning. After recuperating on the Labor Sunday you can get ready to delight in the Labor Day BBQ Lunch Cruise on Hornblower at Hornblower Cruises and Events. With complimentary beer and champagne, this is a lunch you need to have with your friends and family to welcome the best weather in Southern California.
Take a drive to this location perfect for the Labor Day and enjoy activities like cycling and boating with your family at Pedal and Paddle on the calm waters of La Jolla Shores. There is also a sidewalk sale that has been organized at Carlsbad premium Outlets. For those interested in music and concerts check out Bob Weir and Rat Dog on 4th at Humphrey’s on the Bay, Pete Yorn –Del Mar Summer Concert at the Del Mar Track and Johnny Winter at the Belly Up tavern on 4th September. Celebration continue on 6th September with AC/DC at the House of Blues.

Labor Events at Los Angeles

Join in the Labor Day parade organized by LA/Long Beach Labor Coalition and participated by Members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild this Labor Day and walk from Broad and E Street south on Avalon Blvd to Banning Park in Wilmington. The parade takes place on 6th September this year and starts at 10am.
The LA County Fair starts on Labor Day and will continue for a month but the best time to catch the rides, livestock and gardening gadgets is at the beginning after which you are likely to get busy anyways. The fair is being organized at The Fairplex in Pomona.
While the KJAZZ Blues Bash was a more extensive event earlier, it has been reduced to a one day event this year. It shall be held at the Carpenter Center at California State Long Beach with a free street festival and live music outdoor. The Blues bash shall take place on the Saturday of the Labor Day weekend.
For the movie buffs there is a 5 day movie festival that will air forgotten and rare movies from the silent era. A screening of 30 films is planned in The Egyptian Blvd.

Labor Events at Orange County

Labor Day Family Picnic is being organized on Labor Sunday and Labor Day in the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace. The place is likely to have games, chalk art, dancing and loads of good food to go with. The International Street Fair is also planned on the Labor Day weekend where you can enjoy international foods, craft, dancing and music. The fair is likely to showcase various ethnic groups and their cultures as you feed on the sumptuous food.

6 Most Historic Sites in Southern California

For many foreigners, especially for Europeans, the United States do not have any history. Luckily, this is only half of the story. There are indeed historic places, just not as old as the Europeans may expect! Fox Rent A Car presents the 6 most historic sites in Southern California:

1. Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego

One of the most historical sites you will find in San Diego is Cabrillo National Monument. It got built in 1913 but represents the landing of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who guided the first European ships to this area. Besides the old Light House, you can see the monument, an exhibition about the landing, and of course enjoy the spectacular view!

2. William Heath Davis House in San Diego

Built in 1850, The William Heath Davis House is more than 150 years old and for a wooden construction, this is quite an age. It is located in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter and each room of the house presents the life of its former inhabitants, which include Alonzo Horton (San Diego’s founder), pre-civil war soldiers, and even from a German Spy! Get as close to the old times as you can!

3. San Luis Rey de Francia, Oceanside

The San Luis Rey de Francia in Oceanside, just a few miles North of San Diego downtown, is one of the oldest missions you will find in Southern California. In addition, it is also the largest one of 21 California missions. Definitely a place to see!

4. The Angels Flight railway in Los Angeles

This railway opened in 1901 and was used as an easy and convenient way to get to Bunkers Hill. In the late 1960’s, the railway was closed but proudly reopened its doors in 1996.

5. The Queen Mary in Long Beach

As the sister ship of The Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mary was built in the 1930s. For more than a decade it held the title for the fastest transcontinental trip. Later on, the Queen Mary got rebuilt for WW II, and even participated in the D-Day invasion. The ship retired in the late ‘60s and is open to visit, learn and entertain.

6. The Bradbury Building in Los Angeles

This is what you can call old: the Bradbury Building got constructed in 1893 and is full of mysteries and legends. From the outside, you will see the amazing style of the Italian Renaissance, from the inside you will get yourself into the game of light and shadows. The Bradbury Building served as a location for several movies, such as Quantum Leap, Blade Runner, Lethal Weapon 4, and Pushing Daisies.

The places may not be built in the 1500’s, but there is still a lot to see and enjoy, even for Europeans! Do you have any other historic places in Southern California which are definitely worth to visit? Let us know! We are glad to hearing from you.
