San Diego has plenty of places to present the wonders of nature and wildlife to you. Whether you are interested in ocean habitat, desert animals or a combination of animals from all over the world – there is the perfect spot for all of you. We know where you can enjoy nature and animals. You and your kids will love these trips!
San Diego Animal Parks: San Diego Zoo
This zoo is one of the top-rated zoos in the United States, and is internationally highly ranked due to its Panda station and exhibition. Besides well-known and many rare animals, the San Diego Zoo also is a botanical garden presenting more than 6,500 kinds of plants. The zoo is huge and it will take you at least half a day to walk through. You should grab a map and draw your route on it before you start walking. The paths can be quite long so keep your total route short, especially if you know that you cannot walk very far. Your walking efforts will be worth it though: various sites, such as the Outback, Tiger River, Elephant Odyssey, Gorilla Tropics, Africa Rocks, Sun Bear Forest and so much more are waiting for you!
San Diego Animal Parks: Wild Animal Park
San Diego Wild Animal Park is located about 35 miles north of San Diego, plan a 45-minute ride if you stay somewhere in Downtown. Parking is available for a fee, so take some cash with you. Once you are in the park, you will get very close to the wild animals. Check out the Journey into Africa Tour, Elephant Overlook, the Hidden Jungle or Kilimanjaro Safari Walk. Not enough? What about Condor Ridge or Lion Camp? San Diego Wild Animal Park also offers tours and safaris for your very special and unique experience.
San Diego Animal Parks: SeaWorld
SeaWorld San Diego – home of Shamu and his friends! You can easily walk through this park and catch some great shows and entertainment. There are various rides for all ages, plenty of shows with dolphins, pets, the Clydesdales and of course with Shamu. You will find the show schedules on the map that you receive at the entrance. Make sure you arrive about 30 minutes before the show starts and choose wisely whether you and your family want to get wet or not. The danger zone is marked so that you won’t get surprised.
San Diego Animal Parks: Birch Aquarium
Birch Aquarium is the smallest, yet cheapest animal discovery place that you can find in San Diego. It is located in La Jolla, about 12 miles north of San Diego downtown. You can find the whole range of the Pacific marine life, including seahorses, sharks, and coral reefs. Go outside onto the deck of Birch Aquarium, you will find some nice exhibits there. Further, you will have a great view of the Pacific Ocean, San Diego beaches and La Jolla. Its picture time!
