How to Save on your Next Disneyland Vacation

Disneyland may well be one of the most enjoyable places for children and for adults alike. But any parent who has tried to plan this trip for his or her child will know that the enjoyment does not come cheap. Disneyland is not just another theme park that you go to. And to be fair, you would want to make the most of the trip once you have decided to visit. Here are some super duper tips on how you can save up on your next Disneyland trip.

-          Decisions – The first thing that you need to do is to make decision with regards to the number of days that you spend at Disneyland, whether you want to connect it with a beach vacation in Southern California, combine it with a road trip or visit some other Theme parks such as Universal Studios, Six Flags or Sea World. It is also important to know whether you can be flexible about the dates for travel. This can make a fair amount of difference in terms of the money that you pay for the lodging at Disneyland.

-          Plan ahead – When you promise a Disneyland trip to your children make sure that you do not promise a date before you have researched the whole thing. Visit the Disneyland website and get detailed information on theme park attractions, live shows and entertainment that is planned, restaurants and resorts and specialty shops.

-          Off season travel – not only can you avoid the high price of tickets and hotel rooms, you will also be able to stay away from the crowds if you plan to go during the off season time. Typically this theme park is flooded with tourists from mid-June to mid-August. Also long weekends like the Easter weekend, Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving week are also crowd attracting times. On the contrary, check out some of the events planned by Disneyland like the Epcot International Food and Wine festival, ABC Super Soap Weekend, Holidays Around the World and more.

-          Accommodations – Some of the resorts in Disneyland are fairly expensive. But you can save by choosing one of the budget accommodations offered by Disneyland too. These resorts offer complimentary scheduled trips to the Disneyland theme park. If you are looking for higher savings, then you can choose a resort located outside the park. Remember that you will need to make a decision based on a fine balance between how much you spend on transportation and your hotel. If you have younger children, walking may not be an option. AAA and AARP members get special discounts and rates too.

-          Multi-Day tickets – If you choose to purchase the one-day, one-park ticket at Disneyland, the trip will end up being extremely expensive. Look for the multi-day ticket options or the ‘park-hopper’ that allows you to move between parks. Buying Disneyland tickets at the entrance gate is also expensive. Check out the deals that are available online and pick the best.

-           Eating out – Lunch rates at Disneyland are relatively lower than the ones that are charged for dinner. Make lunch your largest meal of the day. It is also a good idea to carry water bottles and snacks for the kids since these are priced higher at the food stalls. Pick up some of the free magazines specific to Disney in the theme park and you will be able to find many restaurant discount coupons too. Do not fall for the Disney Character Breakfast for autographs and photographs with characters. There are various places where the characters meet children and you can use this opportunity for photographs without the hefty price tag.

-          Set a budget for the gift shop – The souvenir shop is extremely expensive. And while you cannot expect your children not to buy anything, you should set a budget limit for each person, if you do not want to break the bank here. The attractive gifts are too alluring to resist otherwise.

10 Best Fall Activities for the Whole Family

Many people prefer a fall vacation as compared to a summer one since the temperatures are cooler and the prices much better too.  Add to that the better ambiance due to lesser crowds and you may have a perfect holiday. Fall vacations are also great because they give you that much-needed short break in the middle of the school session. Typically you can plan fall vacations on long weekends and there is no better time to go other than Halloween. If you are planning a getaway in the next few months, why don’t  you add some of these great Fall Activities to your list of things to do?

Fall Activities – Halloween country packages

The country offers a great getaway during the fall and this is the best place to enjoy the fall foliage as well. Opt for country inns or bed and breakfast options in the countryside. You can choose the Halloween ghost and goblin package at the Farm by the River B&B. This includes a wagon ride and a tour of various inns in and around the White Mountains. Choose the Lathrop House B&B at Springfield MA and your kids can enjoy the fun and enjoyment of carving a pumpkin too. The Ghoulish Getaway package at the Green Mountain Inn, Stowe, VT is designed for special Halloween vacations.

Fall Activities – Fall Foliage

If you are looking for some scenic fall viewing, then you need to understand that the fall colors are different in different places depending on the time of year. The best time to go to higher altitudes for fall foliage is mid September. For places that are situated at a lower altitude October is a better time. Check out the Autumnfest at Smuggler’s Notch, a place that has a lot of options for kids. Family activities, kid games, infant care and more, this is a location that offers you all. You can also get a peak at natures’ best at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Check out the guide before deciding the location and the best time to go.

Fall Activities – Pumpkin Patches

Choose to visit a pumpkin patch and you shall love the ecstatic shrieks of your children as they enjoy the hay rides, petting animals and berry picking experience. Think of a carving pattern with your kids and you can carve one on the pumpkin too. Visit the Great Arizona Puppet Theatre that is not too scary and therefore perfect for younger kids. Or visit the Fall Festival at Luv Shack Ranch and take part in face painting, cake walk, horse painting and other games. The Witches Night Out: A Halloween Costume Event includes tarot reading, belly dancers, energy healers and prizes for the best costume of ‘ugly witch’, ‘sexiest witch’ and more.

Fall Activities – Thanksgiving packages

If you are planning the fall vacation later in the year around November, take advantage of the Thanksgiving packages that are a huge money and time saver. A weekend at the Otesaga Resort Hotel can include tickets to the National Baseball hall of Fame, Fenimore Art Museum and the Farmer’s Museum. The Rocking Horse Ranch offers amazing foliage and crackling fires in addition to daytime activities like archery, wall climbing, horseback riding and more.

While you can choose to go to any of the resorts during fall for a quick getaway, choosing theme based package options for Halloween or Thanksgiving will aid in avoiding the hassle of a day plan for the vacation as all the activities are chalked out for you in the package.

Fox Rent A Car: Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy

Avoiding travel for nine month while you are pregnant is too much to ask for. While some may tell you otherwise, traveling during pregnancy is not something that doctors put a ban on. At the same time, it is judicious to take adequate precautions that you should take to ensure that you are safe and comfortable on the trip.

Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy- Snacks:

Irrespective of whether you are traveling by air or by car, it is important to carry adequate amounts of snacks with you. You can have immediate and sudden cravings for food and it may not be possible to stop over if you are taking a long car ride. On the other hand, in flight snack service may be poor or may cost a fair amount of money. Choose healthy options like fresh grapes, plums, oranges, dried apricots and other vitamin rich foods.

Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy – Breaks:

Frequent breaks are essential to stretch and to go to the bathroom. Make sure that you choose an aisle seat so that you do not disturb other passengers when going to the washroom or taking a short walk in the aisle. When travelling by car, make frequent stops. If you are a passenger, then take off your shoes and recline your seat a little. Rotating your feet at the ankles and wriggling toes can also help increasing circulation.

Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy – Preparedness:

Always carry a copy of your prenatal medical records and your insurance card irrespective of what pregnancy month. Also keep the names and contact details of the people to be contacted in case of an emergency.

Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy – Hydration:

Even though you may hate the frequent trips to the airplane lavatory or be uncomfortable about the delays that are being caused by frequent stops, make sure to consume a lot of water. Dehydration is extremely likely while travelling and this should be avoided at all costs.

Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy – Clothing:

The body temperature of a pregnant woman is different from that of others. So make sure that you carry extra layers of clothing so that you can add layers or remove them as the need may be. In addition to that resist from wearing anything that does not fit well or is tight. This may cause additional discomfort when you have to sit in one place for a long period of time.

Tips for Traveling during Pregnancy – Seat belt:

The seat belt is an extremely important aspect of driving. The positioning the seat belt is critical if you want to keep yourself and your baby safe. Make sure that you have the lower belt under your belly and avoid wearing jackets that can result in the seat belt slipping over the belly. The upper strap should be positioned between the breasts and hold tight.

While during a normal pregnancy, you should be allowed to travel almost at all times of the pregnancy except closer to the due date, the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists states that air travel and long drives are safest in the second trimester. It is also suggested that avoiding travel in the first trimester is best due to morning sickness and higher chances of a miscarriage.

10 Things you Should Always Bring in your Carry On

A vacation is a welcome break from the regular chores of home and work. But with the relief comes the tension and pressure of planning the details of the trip, ticketing, hotel bookings, packing adequately and more. While you fret about all these one aspect that you should not forget is the stuff that you need to carry along with you as carry-on baggage.
Some of the items that you need to ensure to carry along with you when you are traveling include the following:
1.    A ball point pen to fill out the custom forms and immigration details
2.    Warm clothing is also essential even if the airline provides a blanket. You never know when you may need additional cover. So carry a sweater or a jacket to keep yourself and your children comfortable.
3.    Even though most long haul flights do provide meals, it is pertinent to carry some snacks with you to consume in between meals. This is especially essential if you are travelling with children since they can feel hungry anytime. Buying snacks from the on board airline staff can be extremely costly.
4.    Basic hygiene requirements may need to be packed in the carry-on bag especially if you are travelling in the economy class. This should include toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, and moisturizer.
5.    If you do not want to look like a zombie once you alight from the plane, carry some deodorant, cream and make-up. Make sure that you comply with the rules of the airlines and carry small bottles in a transparent bag when you pass through security.
6.    Diapers and change of clothes is also a must if you are travelling with children. These will make your tots feel and look fresh after a full night sleep on the aircraft.
7.    Another carry-on baggage essential when travelling with kids is toys or an activity or coloring book. It may suffice to carry a video game for an older child but you may need some variety with a younger one.
8.    A nasal spray or saline is a good idea so that you can avoid a blocked nose during a long flight. Ensure that you are carrying wet tissues as well to keep your hands clean.
9.    Carrying the details of the hotel bookings and addresses of people whom you are likely to meet in the carry-on baggage is also recommended.
10.    Remember that you can carry your own bottled water on board if you purchase it after clearing security. Make sure to carry enough for everyone.
In most of the airlines, there are rules with regards to what you can carry on board and what you cannot. It is necessary that the carry-on baggage should fit in the overhead cabins or the seat in front of you on a flight. The amount that you are carrying should not exceed the limit allowed on the specific aircraft. Bulky items may need prior booking as may the need to carry hypodermic needles for medical purposes.

Fox Rent A Car Tip: How to Avoid Airline Fees

If you are naïve enough to feel that airfare is the only amount that you need to pay when you are travelling by air, then you are probably in for a shock. Airline fees get increasingly complicated each day. Just when you think you are aware of the excess baggage charges and know how much weight to carry for check in baggage, you may realize that the rules have changed. Below are some of the airline fees that are charged and the manner in which you can avoid them.

1.  Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees:  Check-in Baggage

Most of the airlines allow you to carry 2 pieces of check-in baggage. But some airlines are beginning to charge for this too. The practice has become so prevalent across the United States that some airlines that have not converted are using this is as a unique selling proposition. Even if you have traveled with a particular airline, make sure that you check the policy to confirm that they are still allowing check-in baggage. Find the current policies for all major airlines here!

2.    Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: Oversize and Overweight Baggage

Airlines have always charged extra for excess baggage whether it is in terms of size or weight. Do make sure that you surf the entire site of the airline for this information, even if it is hidden in the deepest corner of the sitemap.

3.  Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: Operator Services

The involvement of human personnel for any information or processing is being discouraged. This is mainly to save costs on salaries and to minimize the number of employees that they need to hire. And this is the reason why some budget airlines are charging for any interaction that requires human intervention like printing the boarding pass.

4.  Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: In-flight Movies

People who have discovered in hotels that they are being charged for specific movies that they might have watched last night, can also expect to be charged for movies or videos that are ordered on the flight. Even though the fares are low, you can avoid this cost by watching DVD’s on your laptop.

5.   Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: Snacks and Refreshments

Snacks and refreshments are a major source of profit for airlines. A small bag of chips can cost $5. It is judicious that you stash a few packs of biscuits and snacks in your carry on bag rather than pay dearly for it when you feel hungry during the flight.

6.    Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: Seat Selection

If you want to extra leg space that comes with the exit row or the first row, then you need to pay more. The online check-in process allows passengers to choose seats for a small fare. Seat selection at the time of check-in is free though.

7.    Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: Pillows and Blankets

Most airlines carriers provided a cozy blanket for the comfort of the passengers. This is no longer true and flights can get extremely cold and uncomfortable. Make sure that you are adequately covered and carry a small and thin blanket if you can in your cabin baggage.

8.    Tip How to Avoid Airline Fees: Alcoholic Beverages

Gone are the days when flights were known for the alcoholic beverages that they provided for free. Small bottles or a glass of wine costs unusually high amounts of money these days. There is no way that you will be allowed to carry your own bottle of liquor on board. So just remember that alcohol consumption on a flight causes jet lag and unruly passengers and keep away.
